Privacy policy — the web app
Effective 19 September 2026 · covers getsangat.com and the Sangat web app. The iPhone and Android apps have their own policy, linked from their store listings; the optional account described here is the same one they use.
The short version
- No account to practise. Your settings and saved sessions live in your own browser. An account — your email, and nothing else — exists only if you buy Sangat Pro, so that it can follow you to every device.
- Microphone audio never leaves your device. Follow Voice analyses it in the browser as it arrives and discards it.
- Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, the merchant of record. They see your payment details; we never see a card or UPI number.
- Analytics, if enabled at all, are cookieless — no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no identity.
What stays in your browser
The web app keeps your preferences (theme, tempo, taal, Sa, instrument volumes) and your saved practice sessions in the browser's local storage on your device. If you sign in, it also keeps your sign-in token and a cached copy of your membership status there. None of it is uploaded anywhere; clearing the site's data in your browser removes all of it, and signing in again brings Pro back.
Your account
An account is created only when you sign in, which the app asks for only to buy Sangat Pro or to bring a purchase to another device. It holds your email address, the times you signed in, and a membership record: which plan, where it was bought (this site, the App Store or Google Play), and when it renews or ends. There is no password — you sign in with a code emailed to you — and nothing else is asked or stored. The account service is hosted by Supabase; the record is used for one thing, deciding whether Pro is on, and never for marketing.
Deleting the account is a button in the app and on the web: Settings → Account → Delete account removes the account and every record under it at once. The payment providers keep their own transaction records for as long as the law requires them to.
The microphone
Follow Voice listens only after you start it, and only while the tab is open on that screen. Each buffer of audio is analysed for pitch inside your browser and then discarded — it is never recorded, never stored, and never transmitted. If you save a take, what is kept is the melody it heard — a list of notes and times, like a page of notation — and that stays in local storage on your device like everything else. Declining the microphone permission disables Follow Voice and nothing else.
Payments
Sangat Pro is sold by Dodo Payments acting as merchant of record. When you buy, checkout happens with Dodo: they receive and process your payment details (and your email address, to send the receipt), handle taxes and invoicing, and are the party your card or UPI statement will show. We receive the money and the order details — never your card or UPI number. Dodo's own privacy policy governs what they process; it is linked from their checkout page. When you buy, the checkout carries your account id so the purchase can be matched to your account, and Dodo tells the account service when a subscription starts, renews, lapses or is refunded — nothing more.
In the iPhone and Android apps, Sangat Pro is sold by Apple and Google through their stores under their own terms. RevenueCat, a subscription service, relays the fact of a purchase to the account service; neither we nor RevenueCat see your card. The account service stores which plan you have, not how you paid.
Analytics
The site can run a small amount of cookieless analytics (PostHog) — and only if it has been configured; with no key set, the app makes no analytics requests at all. When enabled, it counts events like "a page was opened", "sound was played", "checkout was opened". It sets no cookies, builds no cross-site profile, and records no identity. It exists to answer one question — where do people get stuck — and nothing else.
What does not happen
- No password — sign-in is by a code emailed to you — and no account at all unless you buy.
- No advertising, and no advertising trackers.
- No sale or sharing of personal data — there is essentially none to share.
- No recording of your voice, ever, anywhere in the app.
Your rights
Most of your data lives in your own browser: clearing site data deletes it. Your account and everything under it can be deleted in the app, from Settings, at any time — or by email, and you will get written confirmation. For anything payment-related — invoices, deletion of your order record, anything under the GDPR or India's DPDP Act — email and it will be sorted with the provider directly.
Changes
If a future version of the web app does something this page does not describe, this page changes first, with the effective date above.
